"BEHIND BLUE EYES"

22.- December 24, 2016, "Tonight is Christmas Eve and Christmas tomorrow" ..... Happy Holidays to everyone! On this special day of the year I do my free version on drums and accompany with the voice in the slow part the song "BEHIND BLUE EYES" performed live in 1979 in London by the mythical British band "THE WHO", one of the most important rock groups of the 20th century that have influenced several generations and musical genres such as psychedelic rock, opera rock, punk, hard rock, heavy metal or progressive rock.
The group was formed in 1962 initially under the name "THE DETOURS" and was renamed "THE WHO" after drummer Keith Moon joined the band, completing the group Roger Daltrey (voice), Pete Townshend (guitar, voice and keyboards) and John Entwistle (bass and voice). In 1969 the group released "Tommy" and in 1973 "Quadrophenia", two rock operas that would become commercial and critical successes worldwide. In 1978 Moon passed away at the age of 32 and was replaced by Kenney Jones until the group's separation in 1983. In 1996 the group rejoined the Quadrophenia tour, in 2002 Entwistle passed away at 57 and the survivors released in 2006 the album Endless Wire that reached the Top 10 in the UK and the US.
In addition to their music, the group has also left their mark on the energy they gave off in their live concerts and the show that they could put on stage, including as part of it in many cases the destruction of their own instruments at the end of the concerts. THE WHO was inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame in 1990, has sold over 100 million records throughout its long career, has placed 27 Top 40 singles and 17 albums counting only the UK Top 10 and USA, getting 18 gold, 12 platinum and 5 multi-platinum records, among other hits.
As for the song chosen today "BEHIND BLUE EYES", it was written by Pete Townshend and released in 1971 as the second single from "WHO'S NEXT". It was a worldwide success, reaching number 34 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song begins softly like a lament, along with the arpeggio of an acoustic guitar, in the intermission it transforms into a powerful rock theme and ends acoustically. This structure in rhythm became common in THE WHO compositions.
The song has been covered by many artists, Pete Townshend himself, Bryan Adams, Limp Bizkit, Suzanne Vega, (Elf) Ronnie James Dio, Sheryl Crow, Stratovarius, The Chieftains, Skrewdriver, Spiritual Sin and Stratovarius, among others.

LETRA:
"BEHIND BLUE EYES"
(THE WHO)
No one knows what it's like
to be the bad man
to be the sad man
behind blue eyes.
No one knows what it's like
to be hated
to be fated
to telling only lies.
But my dreams
they aren't as empty
as my conscience seems to be
I have hours, only lonely
my love is vengeance
that's never free.
No one knows what it's like
to feel these feelings
like I do
and i blame you
No one bites back as hard
on their anger
none of my pain and woe
can show through.
But my dreams
they aren't as empty
as my conscience seems to be.
I have hours, only lonely
my love is vengeance
that's never free.
to be the bad man
to be the sad man
behind blue eyes.
No one knows what it's like
to be hated
to be fated
to telling only lies.
But my dreams
they aren't as empty
as my conscience seems to be
I have hours, only lonely
my love is vengeance
that's never free.
No one knows what it's like
to feel these feelings
like I do
and i blame you
No one bites back as hard
on their anger
none of my pain and woe
can show through.
But my dreams
they aren't as empty
as my conscience seems to be.
I have hours, only lonely
my love is vengeance
that's never free.
When my fist clenches, crack it open
before I use it and lose my cool
when I smile, tell me some bad news
before I laugh and act like a fool
And if I swallow anything evil
put your finger down my throat
and if I shiver, please give me a blanket
keep me warm, let me wear your coat
No one knows what it's like
to be the bad man
to be the sad man
behind blue eyes.
to be the bad man
to be the sad man
behind blue eyes.
