Aquí estoy de nuevo, en esta ocasión he elegido el tema "NEW YEAR'S DAY" de la genial banda irlandesa "U2", personalmente creo que es una de sus mejores canciones compuesta en la década de los 80, la etapa que considero humildemente que es en la que crearon sus mejores composiciones, con letras reivindicativas y musicalmente sin tantos arreglos electrónicos y donde se mostraba la esencia del sonido de la banda de formato guitarra/bajo/batería pero ya digo que ésta es solo una cuestión de gustos personales. 

 

U2 nació en el año 1976 siendo sus integrantes adolescentes y se ha mantenido unida durante todo este tiempo, lo cual ya es digno de elogio, ha grabado 14 álbumes de estudio, ha vendido más de 170 millones de discos en todo el mundo, ha ganado 22 premios Grammy (más que cualquier otro grupo) y en el año 2005 fue incluido en el Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. La revista musical Rolling Stone la posicionó en el puesto número 22 en su lista de los "100 Mayores Artistas de todos los tiempos". 


El grupo está integrado por BONO (Paul David Hewson) con su expresiva y melódica voz, (En 2008 la revista Rolling Stone colocó a Bono como el cantante número 32 mas grande de todos los tiempos), THE EDGE (Dave Howell Evans) y sus característicos efectos de sonido de guitarra, (En 2011 la Revista Rolling Stone lo posicionó en el número 38 en su lista de los "100 Mejores guitarristas de todos los tiempos"); y la base rítmica integrada por ADAM CLAYTON al bajo y LARRY MULLEN JR. a la batería. El sonido del grupo comenzó con raíces post-punk y fue incorporando posteriormente sonidos de otros géneros musicales desde el rock mas clásico, rock alternativo, pop-rock, pasando por el pop mas comercial y la incorporación de arreglos y sonidos electrónicos.

La canción "NEW YEAR'S DAY" forma parte del tercer disco de estudio de la banda publicado en el año 1983 "WAR" y su primer sencillo, posteriormente también ha sido grabada en directo en varias ocasiones como en "UNDER A BLOOD RED SKY" (1983), personalmente creo que ésta es su mejor versión, y también fue incluida en los discos recopilatorios "THE BEST OF 1980-1990" y "U218 SINGLES". La letra tiene su origen en una canción de amor que Bono escribió a su mujer aunque posteriormente fue modificada inspirada por el movimiento social polaco "Solidaridad".

Hoy os muestro un ensayo a la batería (drum cover) del tema "NUMB" de la banda californiana  "LINKIN PARK", uno de mis grupos favoritos por su particular mezcla de sonidos e influencias. Es mi humilde homenaje a esta genial banda y en especial al que fue su carismático vocalista principal CHESTER BENNIGTON que desgraciadamente falleció el 20 de julio de 2017. El grupo de rock alternativo se formó en el año 1996 en Agoura Hills (California, EEUU) aunque el primer vocalista fue MARCK WAKEFIELD en principio ningún sello discográfico se interesó por ellos y dicho vocalista renunció, ésto hizo que entrara en la banda CHESTER BENNINGTON, firmando el grupo en el año 1999 contrato con la compañía Warner Bros Records, publicando en el año 2000 su álbum de debut "HYBRID TEORY". 

LINKIN PARK lleva vendidos actualmente mas de 100 millones de discos y ha conseguido dos premios Grammy. En cuanto a la temática de sus letras abarca diferentes aspectos que van desde lo personal y sentimental hasta los conflictos sociales. Actualmente la banda está integrada por: MIKE SHINODA (Voz, guitarra rítmica, teclados y programación), BRAD DELSON (Guitarra solísta, piano, percusión y coros), DAVE FARREL "PHOENIX" (Bajo y coros), JOE HAHN (Teclados, programación, DJ y coros) y ROB BOURDON (Batería).

"NUMB" fue publicada en 2003 en el álbum de estudio "METEORA" (Album que en ventas entró en el Billboard 200 en el puesto número uno siendo el tercer disco mas vendido del año), y como sencillo recibió certificaciones de oro en EEUU y Asutralia. El mismo año MTV2 nombró a LINKIN PARK como la sexta mejor banda del vídeo musical y la segunda mejor banda del nuevo milenio, detrás de OASIS. En 2004 la canción NUMB fue grabada nuevamente en el álbum "COLLISION COURSE" junto al rapero JAY-Z, siendo remezclada junto al tema "ENCORE" del rapero. Finalmente la canción quedó como "NUMB/ENCORE" y sería lanzada como sencillo consiguiendo ganar el Premio Grammy en el año 2006 como "Mejor colaboración de Rap". 

A nivel musical la canción la podríamos encuadrar como Rock alternativo con influencias de Rap, Hip Hop, Música Electrónica e incluso con un toque Heavy en los arreglos de guitarra. Vocalmente la interpretación de CHESTER BENNINGTON aparece como voz principal pero combinada con la voz de MIKE SHINODA como voz "rapera" le da al grupo en éste y en otros temas un sonido característico y peculiar. El tema nos habla de una adolescente que se ha perdido en sí misma y que olvida que se debe hacer al hecho de que otros le presionen en ser lo que ellos pretenden que sea. De hecho el vídeo oficial que fue dirigido por JOE HAHN, se centra en el rechazo que recibe una joven estudiante por parte de sus compañeros durante un día de su vida, a ella le gusta dibujar y es ignorada y ridiculizada por sus compañeros de clase, también su madre la rechaza por no ser la hija que quería, al final del vídeo la chica corre a una iglesia donde la banda está tocando la canción.

It is my humble tribute to this great band and especially to its charismatic lead vocalist CHESTER BENNIGTON who unfortunately passed away on July 20, 2017. The alternative rock group was formed in 1996 in Agoura Hills (California, USA) although The first vocalist was MARCK WAKEFIELD, in principle no record label was interested in them and said vocalist resigned, this made him join the band CHESTER BENNINGTON, signing the group in 1999 a contract with the Warner Bros Records company, publishing in 2000 his debut album "HYBRID TEORY".

LINKIN PARK has currently sold more than 100 million records and has won two Grammy Awards. As for the theme of his lyrics, he covers different aspects that go from the personal and sentimental to social conflicts. On a musical level, the song could be classified as Alternative Rock with influences from Rap, Hip Hop, Electronic Music and even with a Heavy touch in the guitar arrangements. Vocally, the interpretation of CHESTER BENNINGTON appears as the main voice but combined with the voice of MIKE SHINODA as a "rapper" voice, it gives the group in this and other songs a characteristic and peculiar sound. The topic tells us about an adolescent who has lost herself and who forgets what to do because others pressure her to be what they want her to be. In fact, the official video that was directed by JOE HAHN, focuses on the rejection that a young student receives from her classmates during one day of her life, she likes to draw and is ignored and ridiculed by her classmates, her mother also rejects her for not being the daughter he wanted, at the end of the video the girl runs to a church where the band is playing the song.

TUTORIAL PARA FABRICACIÓN CASERA DE UN RACK PARA MESA DE SONIDO.

 32.- Hoy comparto un videotutorial en el que he montado de forma casera un rack para la mesa de sonido de 22 canales del grupo que lleva incorporado también un mezclador pequeño de 2 canales con salida de auriculares para el batería del grupo, a ese mezclador llega por un lado a un canal el sonido de la "claqueta" en este caso desde un sampler y al otro canal nos llega el retorno de la mesa del grupo. Estos auriculares los utilizo cuando tocamos un tema que lleva grabada alguna secuencia en el sampler. Además en el rack se han instalado también dos previos (pequeños amplificadores) para darle mas ganancia a las secuencias o sonidos del sampler antes de conectarse a la mesa de sonido del grupo ya que en algunos casos las grabaciones del sampler no sacan una señal suficiente.

El rack queda instalado al lado y al alcance del baterista de modo que en cualquier momento podamos modificar cualquiera de los parámetros de los elementos que necesitemos. Como lo he montado todo en un vídeo mejor que explicarlo aquí podéis visualizar el vídeo que aparece mas abajo, espero que os guste.

TUTORIAL PARA PERSONALIZAR EL BOMBO DE NUESTRA BATERIA.

31.- Hoy os cuento mi experiencia personalizando/tuneando de forma casera el parche del bombo de la batería a través de un sencillo videotutorial ilustrado con fotografías y textos descriptivos para que nosotros mismos podamos personalizar nuestra batería poniendo algún logo que nos guste o identifique, el nombre de la banda con la que toquemos, etc, con muy poco dinero gastado en cualquier papelería entre papel de acetato, fotocopias y papel adhesivo para forrar libros y un poco de tiempo y paciencia para llevarlo a cabo.  

1º.- Imprimimos en un papel el logo, dibujo o letras que queramos colocar en nuestro bombo.

2º.- En base al espacio que dispongamos en el bombo imprimimos las letras en un folio al tamaño exacto que nos interese.

3º.- A continuación imprimimos o hacemos una fotocopia de dichas letras sobre papel de acetato transparente que nos servirá posteriormente como plantilla.

4º.- Recortamos con una cutter las letras del papel de acetato (recuerda poner un cartón debajo al cortar o te acordarás siempre del trabajito, jeje) y ya tenemos nuestra plantilla confeccionada.

5º.- Ahora cortamos un trozo de papel adhesivo (del que se utiliza para forrar libros) del tamaño adecuado y de los colores que nos gusten.

6º.- En el dorso/parte posterior del papel adhesivo superponemos nuestra plantilla y dibujamos a lápiz las letras de nuestro logo, hay que tener en cuenta que hay que invertir nuestra plantilla porque la dibujamos por detrás del adhesivo.

7º.- Recortamos con unas tijeras y/o cutter las letras adhesivas.

8º.- Presentamos las letras sin pegar sobre nuestro parche del bombo para tener una idea o vista previa de como quedaría el resultado final.

9º.- Pegamos nuestras letras adhesivas sobre el parche del bombo.

Ya tenemos el parche del bombo de nuestra batería personalizado/tuneado a nuestro gusto.

7º.- Cut the adhesive letters with scissors and / or cutter.

8º.- We present the lyrics without pasting on our drum patch to have an idea or preview of how the final result would be.

9º.- We stick our adhesive letters on the drum head.

We now have our drum head custom / tuned to our liking.
