ALWAYS THE SUN (THE STRANGLERS)

"ALWAYS THE SUN"

Su discografía principal es la siguiente: Rattus Norvegicus y No more heroes (1977); Black and white (1979), The gospel according to the Meninblack y La Folie (1981); Feline (1983), Aural Sculpture (1984); Dreamtime (1986); 10 (1990); Stranglers in the night (1992); About time (1995); Written in Red (1997); Coup de Grace (1998); Norfolk Coast (2004); Suite XVI (2006); y Giants (2012).

TRANSLATED TO ENGLISH:

Drum cover - Rehearsal on the drums of the song "ALWAYS THE SUN" by the British band "THE STRANGLERS" (The Stranglers). I have chosen this song for several reasons: To dedicate my humble tribute to this band that created good songs, in memory of Dave Greenfiel (Keyboardist) of the band that died of coronavirus on May 3 (DEP) and all the deceased recently for this and other diseases, for the title of the song (which would translate into something like "Always the sun" as a reason for hope for all those who are currently suffering the consequences of the current situation) and because it's just a song that I like.

THE STRANGLERS was formed in 1974 (at first with the name "THE GUILDFORD STRANGLERS") and in England it was at the time one of the driving bands of the PUNK-ROCK phenomenon although perhaps much more in the forms and in its lyrics that in their own sound that especially in the 80s was evolving towards quieter and more refined sounds within styles such as NEW WAVE or POP-ROCK with which they achieved notable commercial success, in fact in Great Britain they got along of their career 17 albums and 23 singles in the Top 40 charts. The group recorded in 1977 their first single "GET A GRIP IN YOUR SELF" with which they reached number 4 in the British charts and in the same year their first two albums and from there they began to reap successes.

His main discography is the following: Rattus Norvegicus and No more heroes (1977); Black and white (1979), The gospel according to the Meninblack and La Folie (1981); Feline (1983), Aural Sculpture (1984); Dreamtime (1986); 10 (1990); Stranglers in the night (1992); About time (1995); Written in Red (1997); Coup de Grace (1998); Norfolk Coast (2004); Suite XVI (2006); and Giants (2012).

Currently until Dave's recent death the group was a quartet consisting of Jet Black (Drums), Jean-Jacques Burnel (Bass), Baz Warne (Vocals and Guitar) and Dave Greenfiel (Keyboards). Other members who passed through were part of the band: Hugh Cornwell (Guitar), Paul Roberts (Vocal), John Ellis (Guitar) and Hans Wärmling (Guitar; 7/22/43 - 10/12/95).

Regarding the song chosen for today "ALWAYS THE SUN" it was first released as a single album in October 1986 reaching number 30 in the UK singles chart, 16 in Ireland, 15 in France and 21 in Australia among others; in turn appears on the album "Dreamtime" and in December 1990 they released another remixed version as a single. The sound of the song could be labeled as NEW WAVE with very soft voices with a very catchy chorus, very melodic arrangements of keyboards and guitars accompanied by a calm rhythmic base that starts very low increasing its intensity especially in the choruses.

LETRA:
ALWAYS THE SUN
(The Stranglers)
How many times have you woken up and prayed for the rain?
How many times have you seen the papers apportion the blame?
Who gets to say?
Who gets to work and who gets to play?
I was always told at school, everybody should get the same.

How many times have you been told if you don't ask you don't get?
How many lads have taken your money, your mother said you shouldnt bet
And who has the fun?
Is it always a man with a gun?
Someone must have told you, if you work too hard you can sweat.

There's always the sun
Mm-hmm, there's always the sun
Always, always (always the sun).

How many times has the weatherman told you stories that made you laugh?
You know it's not unlike the Politicians and leaders, when they do things by half
Who gets the job
Of pushing the knob?
That sort of responsibility, you draw straws for it if you're mad enough.

There's always the sun
Mm-hmm, there's always the sun
Always, always (always the sun).
There's always the sun
Mm-hmm, there's always the sun
Always, always (always the sun).

There's always the sun
Mm-hmm, there's always the sun
Always, always (always the sun).
There's always the sun
Mm-hmm, there's always the sun
Always, always (always the sun).
