SWEET CHILD O'MINE (GUNS N'ROSES)

"SWEET CHILD O'MINE"

TRANSLATED TO ENGLISH:

Today is the turn of the possibly best known song of the Californian Hard-Rock band "GUNS N'ROSES", (With the characteristic voice of Axl Rose and the unmistakable guitar of Slash). It is about "SWEET CHILD O'MINE" (which translated would be something like "My sweet girl").

Curiously, the group published the album "Appetite For Destruction" in July 1987 and in principle its arrival on the market was a disaster, they released a first single "It's So Easy", a second "Welcome To The Jungle" and they didn't work either but they say the third time is the charm so "SWEET CHILD O'MINE" was released as the third single from the album to the market in August 1988, managing to catapult the band to the top as it reached number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the US, as well as number 6 singles in the UK. In fact currently the album "Appetite For Destruction" has sold more than 35 million copies, there it is. Among other recognitions, the song reached number 37 of the "Guitar World" list of the "100 best guitar solos", as well as number 198 of the "500 best songs of all time" of the magazine "Rolling Stone". .

In essence "SWEET CHILD O'MINE" is a love song by a rock band, to write the lyrics Axl Rose was based on a poem he was writing to his girlfriend Erin Everly at that time, (Although later married and finally that ended as the rosary of dawn). In the official video clip the band appears rehearsing in Huntington Park and all the girlfriends of the band members appear at that time, as a curiosity when they were recording the song when listening to the demo and looking for a suitable ending. Axl wondered "Where are we going? , where do we go now?" and finally that text was incorporated into the lyrics of the song on the descent before the final climb. Also comment that for commercial reasons, especially for broadcast on radio programs, the song was shortened and went from almost 6 minutes to 3:42, eliminating part of the well-known slow guitar solo from Slash, a reason that the band did not like anything but which made it easier to reach a wider audience sector, but we could say "Pop" not so used to long guitar solos and therefore to have much more media coverage.

As for the band I think it does not need too much presentation, to say that it was formed in March 1985 in the city of Los Angeles (California), which has sold more than 150 million records with an impact worldwide, which is part of the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" and, for example, was ranked by Rolling Stone magazine at number 21 on the list of "The 100 best artists in history."

In its original formation there were 5 musicians from different groups, one of them L.A. GUNS and another was HOLLYWOOD ROSE, so using a combination of both names they christened the new band "GUNS N'ROSES". (William Bruce Bailey, better known by his stage name as Axl Rose (Vocals and keyboards), Tracii Guns (Lead guitar), Izzy Stradlin (Rhythm guitar and backing vocals), Ole Beich (Bass), and Rob Gardner (Drums).

As for their current line-up, it is led by Axl Rose (Vocals) and Slash (Lead Guitar), accompanied by Richard Fortus (Rhythm Guitar), Duff McKagan (Bass), Melissa Reese and Dizzy Reed (Keyboards) and Frank Ferrer (Drums).

LETRA:
"SWEET CHILD O'MINE"
(Guns N'Roses)
She's got a smile it seems to me
Reminds me of childhood memories
Where everything
Was as fresh as the bright blue sky.
Now and then when I see her face
She takes me away to that special place
And if I'd stare too long
I'd probably break down and cry.

Oh, oh, oh
Sweet child o' mine.
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Sweet love of mine.

She's got eyes of the bluest skies
As if they thought of rain
I hate to look into those eyes
And see an ounce of pain.
Her hair reminds me of a warm safe place
Where as a child I'd hide
And pray for the thunder
And the rain to quietly pass me by.

Oh, oh, oh
Sweet child o' mine.
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Sweet love of mine.
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Sweet child o' mine.
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Sweet love of mine.

Where do we go?
(Where do we go now?)
Oh where do we go now? (Where do we go?)
Where do we go? (Sweet child)
Oh where do we go now?
Ay ay ay ay (where do we go now, where do we go)
Oh where do we go now?
Where do we go?
Oh, where do we go now?
Oh, where do we go?
Oh where do we go now?
Where do we go?
Oh, where do we go now?

No, no, no, no, no, no
Sweet child
Sweet child of mine.
